Photographer, storyteller, and civic advocate. The artist and empathic voice behind Civic Lens Studio.

"I use photography and storytelling to support public service, strengthen civic understanding, and help worthy people and organizations be seen, trusted, and remembered. This work is not just about taking pictures — it is about becoming useful inside the civic ecosystem, documenting democratic life with dignity, warmth, and purpose."
Carol Ellen is the artist and photographer behind Civic Lens Studio — a photography practice dedicated to documenting democratic life, elevating overlooked voices, and making public service feel more human, accessible, and alive.
With an extensive and multidimensional background spanning paralegal work, certified meeting and event planning, twelve years working with individuals with special needs, entrepreneurship, small business ownership, and a deep empathic connection to community and animals, Carol brings a rare and richly layered perspective to her photography.
She is not simply a photographer — she is a problem solver, an empath, and a civic participant who understands that the most powerful images are those that reveal the humanity behind the work. Her lens captures not just events, but the quiet moments of connection, determination, and community that define democratic life.
Through Civic Lens Studio, Carol partners with candidates, nonprofits, community organizers, and civic leaders to help them be seen with dignity, professionalism, and warmth — because every worthy organization deserves a visual presence that matches the depth of their mission.
To build a photography-based public service practice that documents democratic life, elevates overlooked people and organizations, and creates visual stories that encourage civic participation, public trust, and community connection.
This work is not just about taking pictures. It is about becoming useful inside the civic ecosystem. Through photography, writing, and creative visual storytelling, Carol builds relationships with candidates, staff, nonprofits, and civic leaders — offering immediate value at every event, meeting, and campaign.
The goal is to help lesser-known groups present themselves with dignity, professionalism, and warmth — and to use visual storytelling to make democracy feel more human, accessible, and alive.
